Marilynn Karas, NP, IBCLC
Marilynn Karas, NP, IBCLC is an Integrative Nurse Practitioner specializing in Women’s Health, urogynecology and infertility. After completing her undergraduate degree at University of Wisconsin, Madison she was a social worker in a women’s shelter where she was gratified by providing help, but wanted a deeper way to care for people. After careful searching, she chose nursing as a way to combine science and social work and came to NYC to study at Columbia University for her graduate work in Nursing.
Marilynn spent over a decade as an NP specializing in urogynecology at Bellevue Medical Center in New York City. After years of watching her patients continue to suffer with chronic symptoms and being failed by conventional approaches she began to explore alternative therapies. Marilynn completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona with the integrative medicine pioneer Dr. Andrew Weil and completely altered her patient care, which resulted in a significant improvement in her patients’ physical and mental health. She was so energized by this holistic, integrative and functional style of medicine that she decided to devote herself full-time to integrative medicine.
When not working, reading and learning even more about integrative approaches to health and wellness, Marilynn is at home in Brooklyn with her husband and their three very active sons.
